Paul Rudd stars as beaten- down Ben who decides to go on a course to become a carer after divorcing his wife, and Trevor (Craig Roberts) is wry, hilarious and complicated as the teenager Rudd begins caring for. It's refreshing to see disability presented in a way that feels honest without being afraid to address self- depreciation through comedy. Denis Villeneuve in the director's chair and the legendary Roger Deakins as cinematographer. Emily Blunt heads the cast as an idealistic FBI agent opposite Benicio del Toro as the 'Sicario', which is Mexican slang for 'hitman', and Josh Brolin as the leader of a drugs task force whose objective is to "dramatically overreact". Part political comment, part moral fable, Sicario is replete with tense set pieces, but shorter on cheerful bonhomie. Anyone who loves great cinema owes themselves at least one viewing of this taut and beautifully shot movie, just don't expect renewed faith in the human condition by its completion.
